Over 800 Guests at The International Oktoberfest
The eighth edition of the International Oktoberfest, which took place on 15th September 2011, attracted over 800 business managers, diplomatic corps and local government representatives, who gathered in the Arsenał courtyard in Wrocław. The high turn-out is in itself proof of how important this event has become over the years.
The International Oktoberfest in Wrocław is one of the most significant international events in Poland and one of the largest and most prestigious business events in Lower Silesia. This year the organisers - The British Polish Chamber of Commerce, the American Chamber of Commerce in Poland and Polish-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce were partnered by the Scandinavian-Polish, Irish, Belgian and Polish-Spanish Chambers of Commerce. The goal of the event is to integrate high and medium-level managers from members companies of the above chambers, their clients, business partners and other befriended companies from Lower Silesia.
The Honorary guests included a variety of city and regional representatives: Rafał Dutkiewicz, Mayor of Wrocław, Ilona Antoniszyn-Klik, Deputy Governor of the Lower Silesia Province and Rafał Jurkowlaniec, the Marshall of Lower Silesia. We were also particularly honoured to guest Robin Barnett, the UK Ambassador, Lee Feinstein, the US Ambassador, Eugene Hutchinson,
the Irish Ambassador, Dr Gottfried Zeitz, German Consul General in Wrocław and Allen Greenberg US Consul General in Kraków.
The International Oktoberfest also a proved a great opportunity for the BPCC’s new CEO – Joe Tunney – to visit Wrocław officially for the first time. Joe and CEOs from the other partnering Chambers of Commerce joined Polish celebrity and presenter for the evening, Monika Richardson, on stage in order to welcome the guests.
The main musical attraction for the evening was a Bavarian band called Musikkapelle Niederwangen, which was founded in 1823. This band boasts twenty two members – the youngest is just sixteen years old, and the oldest sixty. They are famed across Europe for their Bavarian tradition and passion for creating music together. The Bavarian music performances were accompanied by authentic Celtic music on bagpipes. In order to underline the event’s multiculturalism and to illustrate the true international character of the business environment in Wrocław and Lower Silesia, this year the organisers went above and beyond to provide a wide choice of flavors. In addition to Bavarian cuisine, various types of beer and traditional beer pretzels, guests had the opportunity to try a variety of other national dishes: Spanish cuisine (gourmet sausages, aged ham and cured pork), Belgian (high quality chocolate pralines), Irish (traditional Irish cheeses, smoked salmon and whisky) and American (freshly baked chicken thighs from KFC and aromatic Starbucks coffee). Special flavour to the international feel of the event was added by Indian cuisine from the most famous Indian Restaurant in Wrocław - Masala, and a visual and taste treat was provided by Pałac Alexandów who cooked Bavarian sweets live before the crowds.
Wrocław – a city of meetings. The city of the International Oktoberfest.
The capital of Lower Silesia, which is one of the most dynamic cities in Poland, has been attracting Polish and foreign investors for years.
The fact that Wrocław is a modern, dynamic and innovative city played a crucial role when investors made their investment decisions. An important part is also played by the city’s municipal government’s involvement in promoting the region and its pro-investment activities, which are supported by local enterprises.
The organisers would like to thank all sponsors, partners, suppliers of regional cuisines, raffle sponsors and subcontractors for your engagement and participation.
