Interview with Joe Tunney, CEO BPCC
Michael Dembinski interviews Joe Tunney, who took over as chief executive officer of the BPCC on 22 August.
A first glance at the CV of Joe Tunney, the BPCC’s new CEO, will seem familiar to all those who knew his predecessor, Martin Oxley… A Brit who’s spent many years living in Poland, who speaks Polish, who’s background is solidly grounded in the pharmaceutical sector… Yet the differences in background are as significant as the similarities. Whilst Martin was a sales and marketing man through and through, Joe’s specialisation is finance.
Joe has worked as finance director at Janssen-Cilag (part of Johnson & Johnson), before that, he was the financial controller at GlaxoSmithKline Polska. Prior to Glaxo’s global merger with SmithKlineBeecham, he was financial controller, finance and IT director at Glaxo Wellcome, Polish operations. Joe originally came to Poland as the financial director of Wellcome East Europe in 1992. Before leaving the UK, Joe was group financial director at Keeling Lamont.
Interview with British Ambassador
Michael Dembinski interviews the new British Ambassador to Poland, Robin Barnett.
A children’s book, read when he was eight years old, inspired the young Robin Barnett, filling him with a lifetime’s interest in Poland and central Europe. The book, The Silver Sword, by Ian Serrailleur, tells of the quest of three Polish children searching for their parents in war-torn Poland.
For Britain’s new Ambassador to Poland this is his third posting in Warsaw. He served here between 1982 and 1985 in the aftermath of Martial Law, then again between 1998 and 2001, as Deputy Head of Mission, by which time economic and political transformation was well under way, Poland was joining NATO and on the road to full EU membership. Mr Barnett then served as British Ambassador to Romania (2006-09) and most recently was managing director of UK Trade & Investment’s Business Group in London.
